Clean Pulls 3-3-3-3-3
Max Load: 185-lbs.
Meet Hossein Rezazadeh.
"The Iranian Hercules."
The World's Strongest Man.
Hossein is a 2-time Olympic Gold Medal Winner (2000 & 2004) and the World Record Holder in the Clean & Jerk (580-lbs.), and Snatch (469-lbs.) - that's a total of (another WR) 1049-lbs!!! I actually went and watched those lifts on YouTube and the ease of which he lifted those weights is a little un-nerving but awe inspiring at the same time. Then I read some of his other numbers: Front Squat (749-lbs.), Back Squat (859-lbs.), Bench Press (484.5-lbs.), and Deadlift (836.75-lbs.)
How can someone be that freaking strong? That's what I like to call... "BUTT STRONG."
I bring all this up because today we worked on our Clean Pulls from the floor. Jerry's motive in having CFOT do these is for us to get it right. That means correct setup, stance, technique, speed, etc. put it all together and get it right! I've been having trouble with my cleans since I started CrossFit and sometimes my frustration is visibly apparent, but today I finally felt as if I made actual progress today. Thanks to all the coaching cues & pointers my last pull from the floor felt that much better than any other Clean that I've attempted in the previous 2 months. One of the main reasons I started CrossFit was because I wanted to get faster & stronger (not necessarily bigger, LOL) - but I know that I'm not the biggest dude, nor the fastest, or the strongest. But you may have heard the saying that's used to check one's athletic aspirations at "Reality's" door:
"There's always going to be someone who's bigger, faster, and stronger than you."
And my response to that will always be "Yeah, well that doesn't mean I can't chase 'em..."
