The Chains of Olympus!

WOD:

Front Squat 5 x 1

Top Load: 235-lbs. (+45-lbs. of Chains)

Jerry recently picked up some chains to utilize during our squatting sessions. For an article understanding the thought process and added benefits of squatting with chains go here:

From the article:

"The chain is attached to the top of the barbell, with some portion of it on the floor. As the squatter descends, more of the chain is on the floor, decreasing the overall load. As the squatter ascends, less of the chain is on the floor, increasing the overall load. This arrangement requires greater force production at the top end of the squat (because more of the chain is off the floor and thus suspended from the barbell) when the legs are in a more mechanically advantageous position to produce greater force."

So yeah, squatting with chains was fun. I missed 235 + Chains initially but I came back and got it on the second go around. My legs were still butt-sore from Monday & Tuesday so I think this was a good idea to kinda loosen everything up.

The thing with chain squatting is the sticking point changes; most people get stuck in the bottom position but the chains change that to the point where the chains start coming up off the floor. So the trick is to keep a tight core, elbows up, and speed through the middle past that new sticking point.
