Cease & Desist

WOD:

Deadlift 5x3

Top Load: 300-lbs. [PR]

Riddle Me This: If I'm smart enough to deduce that I need some x-rays taken of my wrist why do I need to go see a doctor beforehand just to cough up $20 on a co-pay & a piece of paper saying that I'm allowed to see a radiologist? WHY!?! Why must there always be a middle man?

So I hurt my wrist a couple of weeks ago on a missed power clean. I've been icing & taking anti-inflammatories which has helped some but there is still some pain when my hand & wrist are in extreme angles or positions (i.e. front squats, thrusters, jerks, cleans, etc.) So all the fun stuff is out the window - which is why I was pleased to see Deadlifts this morning. Deadlifts are pretty neutral and are nice & easy on the wrists.

Today I focused on ensuring the best possible form at all times. There have been times where my DL's have been rounded out & ugly and that's just lower back pain, or worse, an injury waiting to happen. I believe I could've gone 315-lbs. for 3-reps but they probably would've been butt trifilin'.

The weirdest thing happened this morning - I was on my 2nd to last set and on the last rep my hammies started firing & shaking all weird. Someone said I looked like I was trying to "drop it like its hot" while deadlifting! Apparently this was pretty funny as everyone was laughing (especially Keturah!) so I'm glad I was able provide some comic relief aside from my face.

The middle man is what keeps the world turning. Don't get me started on the medical community, it's those certain psychological leverages of power that trip me up.

As a patient in the socialized military medicine community for 20+ years now, I can tell you that health care was the #1 reason I didn't vote O in November.

You think it is bad now... just wait.

Awesome lifts Sean. I hope the wrist gets better soon, so you can get back to the "fun" stuff

I had the same injury early last month (missed squat clean) and was out of commission for a good 6 weeks from anything that required the rack position. What really helped was seeing a chiropractor to reset the joints in my hand and wrist. It's painful and you'll want to smack him/her after, but you'll see the biggest improvement versus icing/taking anti-inflammatories.

Awesome job on the deadlifts yesterday; you'll be back to the speed lifts in no time.

@Grace - what exactly did they do to "reset" your hand/wrist?

Sean,
The chiropractor laced his fingers through mine and pulled my hand towards him. "Resetting" the hand/wrist closely resembles your typical adjustment only difference is now the joints in your hand/wrist are all "jammed up". HTH.
