Snatch Grip Strict Press 3x1
Snatch Grip Push Press 5x1
***Snatch Grip (SG) Press is performed from Behind the Neck (BTN)***
Top Load(s): 125-lbs./225-lbs. (PR)
Man... I can't even tell you how much I needed this morning and this personal record.
To say that CrossFit has been tough on me mentally as of late is truly an understatement. Ever since my embarassing performance & placing at this year's Mid-Atlantic Hopper Challenge it's been hard to come back and perform even though I went through a "mountain top" type experience. I came back highly motivated to work weakness after weakness after weakness in order to ensure that something like that Hopper performance would never happen again. And we've been hitting those weaknesses, oh believe me Coach made sure to!
So today in order to lay some foundational ground work for heavy Overhead Squats and Snatches we did Snatch Grip, Behind the Neck Push Presses. I enjoyed my last romp with Push Presses where I nearly pressed 200-lbs. 3 times, destroyed the boombox, and broke a rack. Come to think of it... I don't think Jerry remembered my last romp with Push Presses and how much of his property I almost demolished by myself hmmm... oh well, his loss!
BTN/SG Strict Presses were obviously NOT happening today so I quickly moved on to BTN/SG Push Presses. Now - Dan, Ian, and myself were lifting today. Dan & Ian are taller dudes and my rule of thumb is this: if you can see up someone's nostrils without stooping down you need to lift with someone else!
Needless to say while they quickly moved their way up to the 200-lb. level I quietly made moves of my own... to a successful lift @ 205-lbs. Dan had finished up @ 201-lbs. but when he heard that I was @ 205-lbs. he opted not to shower as I had lit the fire of competition in his bones! He was able to hit 205-lbs. and that's when we started piling on the plates. Not really, more like 6-lbs. to make it 211-lbs. I went first... SUCCESS. Then Dan went... MISS! After that Dan offered congratulatory musings and off he rode into the sunset.
I'm not gonna lie, I was feeling BALLSY. So I loaded up the bar with all the 15-lb. plates I had to make it 225-lbs. and just tried to prepare mentally for the ensuing PR attempt. Mental notes & cues swam through my head: big breath... tight core... load the hips... jump hard... pinch the penny (LOL)... and speed.
"Speed..." I can do that! I racked the bar on my traps, dipped, and then exploded! The result? A 225-lb. Push Press PR without having to press it out, I was beyond stoked! Here's a breakdown of my attempts:
135 - 165 - 195 - 205 - 211 - 225 - 230
I'm hoping to carry the momentum and keep chugging. Just gotta stay motivated!
