Back Squats

WOD:

Back Squats 5x5

Top Load: 205-lbs.

"Texas. August of 1996. It's nearly 100-degrees at 10:00 in the morning and sweat is dripping from every possible pore. It's the early beginnings of football season and in Texas football is king - arguably second only to Jesus. But that's easily debatable... just not in public forums. It's the beginning of "Two-A-Days" and it's so hot that it feels like my eyeballs are sweating. Finishing up early morning drills & skills with the receivers and defensive backs we hustle off the field mustering up just enough speed to avoid looking "soft." Off to the weight room. Bench Presses, Dumbell Curls, Deadlifts, Dips, Pullups, Back Squats - all done, oddly enough, to the soundtrack from 'Space Jam'..."

Fast forward to today, more specifically this morning - BACK SQUATS. All that was missing was R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly" blasting through a huge PA system. It's been 13-years (which makes me wanna gag) since my last Back Squat and it felt like it - everything was just off today. I'm beginning to realize that pretty much NONE of the lifts come easily to me and that it's going to be work, work, work, technique, technique, technique, more work, work, work and even more technique, technique, technique. The Back Squats made me feel extra weak & soggy which is pretty frustrating. Oh well... just one more thing to add to my list (which seems to be getting longer & longer).

Shout out to Melissa for her coaching expertise this morning.

Listening To: Busta Rhymes - "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See"

So, that kitchen broom is going to get some technique work, eh? While you stir fry dinner?

I'm pretty sure the soggy part is FGB yesterday and will be fixed by a rest day... if you take one :)

@Katie - This week seems to be leaning towards the "frustrating" end of the spectrum. BTW, good work this morning. Way to be a model chick!

@Christine - What's a broom? in fact, what's a kitchen? LOL. NO REST FOR THE WEARY.

At least you didn't bail on your squat like moi.

Your back squates are miles ahead of mine, bro. I was trying to list all the things I heard today - head looking out 6 feet and down, chest up but torso can be down, lift with the hammies, bar deep on the back, don't wrap thumbs, don't rest bar on the wrists... A lot with this excercise.

Like you wrote, special props to Melissa and Katie.
