WOD:
Clean & Jerk 7x1
No Jerks for Me - Just Cleans!
Top Load: 155-lbs.
I was pretty happy with last Saturday's skill work involving the Clean. I got to work the shrug & elbow whip from the hang position and I felt like I made some progress. This morning my pulls from the floor weren't getting to the pockets, I couldn't get the bar weightless, etc. it was just a frustrating morning of lifting.
"You only get out what you put in."
After the cleans, in my frustration, I did a quick little Double Under/Burpee/Double Under/KB Swing workout because I felt like I just didn't do anything this morning. I felt like I made no progress whatsoever, I needed to just get "it" out (whatever "it" is) and break a sweat! But then Jerry said something that didn't really register to me until just now actually, he said:
"Sean! Why're you doing Kettlebell Swings when you could be working on your clean!?!"
At that point I think I probably said something completely lame & unfunny for a response/excuse but now that I think about it he's absolutely right. Why in the heck was I doing KB Swings when I could've been work on a clean progression of some sort!?! How am I supposed to expect something in return when I'm not investing the time & effort into it? Sometimes (at least for me) one expects quick results even with little to no effort and that right there is a pile of ripe horse manure. How can I even think about cleaning 200+ lbs. if I'm not taking the time to invest in myself to work the weakness?
It's time for a mindset reset.

I can totally relate to wanting immediate results. When I see testimonials with people's before and afert pictures I get frustrated with the fact that I don't look like their "after" photo when I've been zoning/crossfitting for a longer period of time. Everyday I have to tell myself to be patient and if I don't give up, I'll get there.
...I fully expect to see you cleaning 225 by your first crossfit anniversary, so you better get crackin'
Adam, you're a better man than I in that you work your weaknesses fervently & with passion. I on the otherhand tend to want to coast or skate by. I'd like to change that mindset and be like you!
it's very simple and easy: before (or after) every WOD work on cleans with either PVC or real light weight. The only way to get better is to do the work, so you might as well start working now!
...thank you for the kind words, I think one of the things I'm most proud about is my approach to overcoming obstacles, whatever they may be!
